The situation of children in Armenia:
In Armenia, there are around 0.7 million children under the age of 18. Up to 30% of these children live in poverty and 2% live in extreme poverty. Since 2001, reforms have seen the number of children in state-run residential institutions half to approximately 1,500 in 2019. In 2024 there were only 600 children left in institutions. However, children with disabilities remain among the most vulnerable groups, constituting around 1% of all children in Armenia. Many other children are in need of support so that they can grow up healthily and safely. People interested in adoption in Armenia are looking for healthy newborn babies and are not willing to adopt older or disabled children.
